Followers of Jesus are called to abide in Christ because we know that apart from Christ we can do nothing (John 15:4-5). Yet, we can be guilty of seeing spiritual practices as an attempt to possess, achieve, earn or receive something from God. Spiritual maturity? A blessed life? For God to do our bidding?
Christian spiritual practices are for communing with Christ. Abiding in action. May our practices shape us for the life to come: “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
