‘Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for the sake of Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness! Why should the nations say, ‘Where is their God?’ Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.’ - Psalm 115:1-8
Not to a candidate or a party.
Not to a system of government.
Not to a country or a flag.
Glory belongs to One alone.
Lest we be tempted to boast in the glory of any other, let us remember our God shares His glory with no one (Is 42:8). He sits enthroned in the heavens with the earth as his footstool, how small our own attempts at self-glorification (Is 66:1, Gen 11:5). When we seek glory – to possess, or create – we become the golden calves we fashion (Ps 115:8, Ex 32).
Whatever the outcome of this day, this year, or the next four years, we rejoice not in victory or defeat, but in the hope of the glory of God (Rom 5:2).
‘Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.’ Revelation 7:12
